Continuing a decades-old tradition, the Valley Kids Festival & Craft Fair is returning to the Amherst Town Common on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival, now in its 32nd year, was formerly known as the Apple Harvest Festival. The event is a re-creation of an old-fashioned New England community fair, featuring approximately 60 craft and local food vendors, children’s games, pony rides, a bounce house and a silent auction.

“We also have a ‘preschool alley’ for parents to shop around for preschool information and how to get signed up,” said Sally Lindowski, associate dean of student/parent programs at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The Valley Kids Festival is produced for the Amherst Family Center, a program of the UMass Amherst Office of Family Resources.

Though admission is free, the event raises approximately $10,000 a year to support materials, staff and occasional performers for the Amherst Family Center’s free parent-child program, Lindowski said.

The Valley Kids Festival is held rain or shine, and is sponsored by Valley Kids magazine, a publication of the Daily Hampshire Gazette and Greenfield Recorder.
