In Advance: ‘The American Songster’ coming to Hawks & Reed

Dom Flemons, known as “The American Songster,” is performing at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center in Greenfield on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.

Flemons repertoire covers nearly 100 years of American music and folklore. He is a professional touring musician, traveling the world presenting traditional folk and roots music to diverse audiences.

Flemons is a co-founder of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, winner of a 2010 Grammy for Best Traditional Folk. In 2016, the Carolina Chocolate Drops were inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame and the group is featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Beginning in 2014, Flemons embarked on a solo career.
