ORANGE — The police departments of Orange and Athol plan to have extra manpower on the streets today so trick-or-treaters and their guardians can have a safe Halloween.

Orange Police Chief Craig Lundgren said his department always has extra foot and vehicle patrols on Halloween, landing this year on Tuesday, with an officer stationed on South Main Street. Athol Police Chief Russell Kleber said his town’s street will also be covered by extra patrols, including Police K9 Gronk, and Kleber himself.

There will be a Preschool Halloween Stroll from 10 a.m. to noon, and preschool-age children will be able to walk down the Main streets in Athol and Orange and stop by local businesses, libraries and town halls that have an orange pumpkin in the window. Trick-or-treating for others will be allowed between 5 and 8 p.m. in both towns.
