Chloe Ellis had a big night on both ends of the court to help Turners Falls High School to its second win in as many days, 52-49 over Palmer High School in an independent girls’ basketball game Wednesday night in Turners Falls.

Ellis scored a season-high 17 points in the victory and also played solid defense in the low post against Palmer center Kendall LeVasseur, who finished with just 3 points and did not score in the second half.

“I give a lot of credit to Chloe, not only for her scoring but also holding LeVasseur to just three points,” Turners coach Ted Wilcox said. “Her and Hailey (Bogusz) played great defense tonight. Those girls really worked hard.”

The game went back and forth as Palmer led 17-14 after the first quarter but Turners (6-2 overall) outscored the Panthers, 16-7, in the second quarter to take a 30-24 lead into the break. The hosts had a third-quarter letdown, with Palmer outscoring them 13-6 to take a 37-36 lead into the fourth, but Turners put together a solid final frame and outscored Palmer 16-12.

“I’m happy. We have some things to improve and they know that, but I think they played hard and they didn’t give up,” Wilcox said. “That third quarter was a real letdown, but they came right back in the fourth.”

Ellis shot 9-of-14 from the free-throw line and was 4-of-6 from the field in the win. Maddy Chmyzinski hit a pair of 3s en route to her 11 points, which included making 3-for-3 from the foul line in the fourth. Abby Loynd scored 10 points for the second straight night, including a pair of 3s, to go with three assists, and Dabney Rollins hit a 3-pointer and finished with 7 points.

Jillian Lombardi led Palmer (3-4) with 18 points, and Megan Wilson added 10.
