SHELBURNE FALLS — While working out of a space at 102 Bridge St., Hilltown Hair Salon owner Crystal Jarvenpaa aspired to move closer to the center of the village. When the former home of Bon Salon became available, she could not resist.

“I really liked the idea of being in town,” Jarvenpaa said of her new location at 17 Bridge St., which had a grand opening on Sept. 5 following a month of renovations. “Even though it was just down the street, it feels more like I’m in town.”

Jarvenpaa, who has been working with hair since 2013 when she graduated from Franklin County Technical School, spent the past month renovating the space, replacing cabinets and furniture, and getting to know her new neighbors.

While the space is new to Jarvenpaa, it’s not new to the hair industry or to stylist Judy Dacyczyn. Dacyczyn has worked as an independent stylist at the various salons that have called 17 Bridge St. home for 48 years.

With the new space, Jarvenpaa said she wants to grow her business, which opened in its former location in 2021. Currently, Hilltown Hair provides hair, lash and waxing services. Jarvenpaa hopes to eventually add nail services and skin care treatments.

She added that while she hopes to broaden the scope of services in the future, Hilltown Hair Salon has already begun an expansion, as stylist Megan Delisle-Hale has recently taken up a specialization in bridal hairstyling.

The salon is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The business is closed on Sundays. For more information about Hilltown Hair Salon or to make an appointment, call 413-625-6623.
