Franklin Tech’s Emily Ryan kicked off the Fall II season with seven aces and seven kills to lead the Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Greenfield Wednesday at Nichols Gymnasium.
“It was great to see the girls playing again,” FranklinTech coach Jade Cuevas said. “Without a crowd, it was cool seeing them cheer each other on.”
The Eagles took the first set, 25-13, but the Green Wave evened things up at one with a 25-12 win in the second set. Tech took the third set, 25-20, and the fourth set, 25-16.
Maggie Charlton had three aces, three kills and two assists in the winning effort, with Renee Reed adding five aces, two kills and three assists for the Eagles.
Korynne Callahan had four kills and two assists for Greenfield, Cassie Mattei had three kills and six aces and Kelsey Richardson had five kills and two aces.
Mahar 3, Pioneer 0 — Madison Harrington dished out 13 assists and also had 10 aces as the Senators opened up their season with a 3-0 win over the Panthers Wednesday in Northfield.
Mahar took the first set, 25-18, before winning another close one in the second set, 25-19. The Senators pulled away in the third set, 25-9.
Saylor Kegans had six kills and five aces in the win, with Quincey Drew smashing five kills and recording five aces.
For Pioneer, Lily Faille had five aces and five kills while Aiden Wall had five attacks and nine digs in her first ever game at the libero spot.
“Tonight’s games for us was a win even though the scoreboard did not reflect that,” Panther coach Robin Tibbetts said. “The team pulled together and showed awesome team spirit.”
