HS Track, Tennis, Volleyball: Frontier track wins pair of Intercounty League titles

Add another league title for Bob Smith and the Frontier girls track team. 

The Redhawks came away with a 118-27 victory over Mohawk Trail on Tuesday — a meet that began on Monday in Buckland, was suspended by weather and resumed on Tuesday in South Deerfield — to seal an unbeaten 6-0 season for Frontier and locking up the Intercounty League championship. 

Sadie Ross won the discus (82 feet, six inches) and javelin (92-4), Caroline Crocker took the long jump (14-10.5) and 100 hurdles (15.4 seconds) and Abi Howard won the high jump (4-8) and 800 (2:36.3) for the Redhawks. 

Rounding out the Frontier winners were Cady Wells-Robinson in the shot put (29-2.5), Alena Maes-Polan in the pole vault (9-6), Hannah Mackin in the mile (5:52.2), Josie Fosnot in the 400 (64.7) and Bianca Peura in the 2 mile (14:31.5). The Redhawks won the 4x100 (54.7) and 4x400 (4:32.9) relays. 

Emmy Sissum won the triple jump (30-4.5) and 400 hurdles (71.8) while Ellie Pinkham took the 100 (12.8) and 200 (27.1) for Mohawk Trail. 

Mahar 78,Greenfield 57 — Sienna Moore put on a show for the Senators, winning the high jump (4-8), triple jump (31-3), pole vault (10-0) and 100 hurdles (17.8) to propel Mahar to a victory over the Green Wave in Greenfield on Tuesday. 

Stella Moore won the long jump (13-4) and 400 hurdles (82.9), Bella Sayarath took the 100 (13.4) and 200 (30.0) and Cordelia Rhodes won the 400 (76.1) for the Senators. Mahar won the 4x100 (57.5) and 4x400 (5:16) relays. 

Greenfield winners were Tess Rancourt in the shot put (35-11), Sam Santos in javelin (82-8), Lillia Kachelmeyer in discus (94-6), Candice Lu in the mile (6:27.2) and 2 mile (14:10) and Ava Fortin in the 800 (2:51.6). 

Boys track

Frontier 93, Mohawk Trail 42 — Like the girls, the Redhawk boys sealed up the Intercounty League title on Tuesday, picking up a victory over the Warriors in South Deerfield. 

Ian Burt won the long jump (16-11.25), triple jump (40-0.25) and 400 (57.2) while Erich Brown came in first in the high jump (5-10) and 110 hurdles (19.4) for Frontier. Jack Vecellio hit 16-0 on the pole vault, Aiden Dredge won the javelin (108-7), Ben Cachiguango earned a win in the 100 (11.8), Aidan Valderrama won the 800 (2:09.4) and Dwight Balk took the 200 (24.7) in the victory. The Redhawks won the 4x100 (48.7) and 4x400 (3:53.2) relays. 

Will Van Vleet won the shot put (33-5) and discus (86-3) while Dennis Simmons took the mile (4:54.1) and 2 mile (11:01.8) for Mohawk Trail. 

Greenfield 100, Mahar 44 — Liviu Mihailicenco won the 110 hurdles (15.8), 400 (54.0) and the high jump (5-8), Deion Brewington took the 100 (11.6), 200 (25.1) and shot put (38-11) and Theo Popusoi earned first in the 400 hurdles (1:01.8), long jump (19-2.75), pole vault (13-0) and triple jump as the Green Wave earned a win over the Senators in Greenfield on Tuesday. 

Andy Bostrom took the mile (5:19.6) and Jon Breor won the javelin (115-0) for Greenfield. The Green Wave took the 4x100 (47.0) and 4x400 (4:27.9) relays. 

Jeffrey Laplante won the 800 (2:37), Noah Rich took the discus (95-6) and Abduli Gilmore won the 2 mile (12:08.3) for Mahar. 

Girls tennis

Greenfield 5, Turners 0 — Jenna Keith picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles, Kaitlyn Collins won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles and Estera Covalenco earned a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in No. 3 singles in the Green Wave sweep of the Thunder on Tuesday at the Davis Street Courts. 

Rory Cronen-Townsend and Kaitlyn Phillips came up with a 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles and Virginia Marin and Rebecca Covalenco came up with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in No. 2 doubles for Greenfield. 

Pope Francis 3, Frontier 2 — Sydney Scanlon picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles but it was the lone singles victory for the Redhawks in a loss to Pope Francis in Springfield on Tuesday. 

Sam Scanlon came away with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in No. 1 doubles for Frontier. 

Boys tennis

PVCICS 5, Frontier 0 — Coleman Hartner, Miles Keefe, River Rodrigues, Jacob Han, Oliver Brown, Robert Fuqua and Donovan Vichi all competed for the Redhawks in a loss to the Dragons on Tuesday. 

Boys volleyball

Frontier 3, Longmeadow 1 — The Lancers took the opening set but the Redhawks stormed back to win the next three and pull out a 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 victory in Longmeadow on Tuesday. 

 Aleks Carey led the way with 16 kills for Frontier (13-2), with Jesse Kurkononis adding 11 kills and 27 digs. Patrick Boyden put down seven kills, Jack Carey tallied six kills and Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 38 assists in the win.
