The Frontier boys basketball team found itself in a familiar position on Wednesday night. 

Taking on Drury, the Redhawks — as they have all season — found themselves in a tight battle late, with Owen Babb scoring inside to give Frontier a 47-46 lead with just 40 seconds to go. 

The Blue Devils responded with a basket with 28 seconds left, forced a turnover and knocked down both free throws after being fouled to take a 50-47 lead in the final seconds. 

Frontier got two looks from 3-point range to tie the game but both shots fell short, as Drury escaped with a 50-47 Hampshire League South victory at Goodnow Gymnasium in South Deerfield.

The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Redhawks. 

Babb tallied 18 points, Nico Fasulo scored 15 points, Max Millette finished with 12 points while Rowan Modestow added four points for Frontier. 

Pioneer 62, Lenox 43 — Tied at 31 at the half, the Panthers outscored the Millionaires 31-12 in the second half to pull away with a Hampshire League South victory in Lenox on Wednesday. 

Brayden Thayer finished with 23 points and four assists in the win. Josh Wood tallied 15 points and four rebounds, Alex McClelland scored nine points, Kurt Redeker recorded nine points, six rebounds and six assists while Hugh Cyhowski had six points and 11 rebounds for Pioneer. 

PV Christian 52, Franklin Tech 34 — PV Christian took a 30-18 lead at the half, ultimately leading to an independent victory over the visiting Eagles on Wednesday. 

Jack Gancarz scored nine points, Gabe Mota and Robert Belval each finished with six points while Tyler Lafountain, Nolyn Stafford and Caleb Johnston each had three points in the loss. 

Girls basketball

Frontier 51, Palmer 38 — Skyler Steele’s 18 points helped power the Redhawks to a Franklin County League North win over the Panthers in Palmer on Wednesday. 

Frontier trailed 25-18 at the half but responded in the final 16 minutes, outscoring Palmer 21-8 in the third quarter and 12-5 in the fourth. 

Olivia Machon and Hailey Hutkoski both finished with 10 points while Claire Kirkendall tallied six points in the victory. 

Greenfield 61, Monument Mountain 31 — Amber Bergeron continued her scoring tear in Great Barrington on Wednesday, tallying 35 points as the Green Wave cruised to an independent victory. 

Gloria McDonald finished with 13 points, Anna Bucala tossed in eight points while Carly Blanchar and Tayler Bergeron each scored four points in the win for Greenfield.

Skiing

The Northfield Mount Hermon alpine ski teams swept first place on both the boys and girls sides during the Mt. Institute Ski League on Wednesday at Berkshire East.

Deerfield Academy was right behind in second place in both races.

Int he girls’ race, NMH’s Vittoria Pinci was the individual winner with a combined time of 97.44 seconds, ahead of DA’s Cecelia Cramer in second place (99.03). NMH’s Chiara Pinci was third (99.62).

NMH’s Ryan Choi won the boys’ race in 83.57 seconds, followed by teammate Cody Vassar (third, 89.34) and DA’s Johnny Monty (fourth, 90.45).

Here are the Deerfield Academy results from Wednesday: boys hockey beat Loomis (5-1), girls hockey tied Westminster (1-1), boys squash beat Avon (7-0), girls squash defeated Loomis (7-0), girls basketball fell to Suffield (70-35) while boys basketball lost to Taft (75-52).
