Johnny Marchefka and Preston Lafleur had themselves big days for the Greenfield golf team on Wednesday. 

Marchefka shot a 37 while Lafleur finished with a 38, allowing the Green Wave to pick up a 156-190 independent win over Athol at the Country Club of Greenfield.  

Michael Pierce shot a 40 while Bryce Avery carded a 41 to close out the Greenfield scoring. 

Dominik St. Andre (43), Brandon Adams (43), Ethan Heuer (46) and Rafeal Lopez (58) scored for the Bears. 

Mohawk Trail 194, Franklin Tech 200 — Phineas Tuttman shot a 43 while Doug Wilcox carded a 49, helping the Warriors pull off an independent win over the Eagles at Edge Hill Golf Course on Wednesday. 

Gage Patenaude (50) and Deegan Kelleher (52) also scored for Mohawk Trail in the win. 

Gabe Mota (40), Braeden Talbot (52), Will Belval (53) and Tyler Lafountain (55) scored for Franklin Tech.

Pioneer 172, Frontier 181 — Ben Werner came in with a team-low 40 for the Panthers in an independent win over the Redhawks at Cherry Hill Golf Course on Wednesday.

Mike Stennes (43), Brayden Thayer (44) and Ethan Mauthe (45) scored for Pioneer in the win. Ryan Cetto shot a match low 39 for Frontier while Cam Skiffington (41), Cade Allenby (50) and Gabe Solodky (51) rounded out the Redhawk scoring. 

Turners 174, Easthampton 223 — Joey Mosca was the match medalist with a 36, helping propel the Thunder to a victory over the Eagles at Holyoke Country Club on Wednesday. 

Reese Ewell (43), Jackson Day (46) and Cam Cogswell (49) chipped in for Turners in the win. 

 Volleyball

Athol 3, Greenfield 0 — Laney Florentino put down five kills and eight aces while adding seven assists in the Bears’ 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 Northern League sweep over the Green Wave at Mallet Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Alma White dished five assists and added four aces, Giana Vaillancourt recorded four kills and six aces while Olivia Mayer smashed three kills in the victory. 

Mackensie Goncalves  (four aces, seven kills, one block), Ivory Rivera Renaud (six digs, four aces), Julia Belville (two aces four kills, one block) and Giomaris Collado Bonilla (eight digs, two kills) led Greenfield in the loss. 

Turners 3, Franklin Tech 0 — The Thunder  remained unbeaten in Northern League action, walking away with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-23 win over the host Eagles on Wednesday. 

Taylor Greene dished out 23 assists while adding seven kills and four digs, Madi Liimatainen put down 19 kills and two aces while coming up with five digs, Tatiana Carr Williams recorded eight kills and one block while Maddie Dietz tallied two aces and 12 digs for Turners. 

Haleigh Benoit had two aces, three kills and one dig, Kristine Given made six digs, Hannah Hackett came up with two digs while Amelia Rider had five digs for Franklin Tech. 

Pioneer 3, Mahar 0 — The Panthers picked up their second win in a row on Wednesday, earning a 25-12, 25-21, 25-16 Northern League triumph over the Senators in Orange. 

Kayla Gauthier (eight aces, four assists, 19 digs), Aiden Wall (four kills, one ace, 12 digs), Erin Killay (one kill, four aces, 23 digs) and Avery Johnson (two kills, 18 digs) paced Pioneer while Madelynn Burgess (three aces, three assists), Mia Santana (four aces, two assists), Scarleth Aranda Lebron (two aces) and Hayden Comeau (four aces, four kills, seven digs) played well for Mahar. 

Field hockey

Mahar 6, Smith Academy 2 – Trailing 2-1 midway through the third quarter, the Senators sprung to life on Wednesday.

Taylor Paluk netted three goals in the second half, including two in the third quarter that helped Mahar rally for a 5-2 Valley League victory in Orange.

Ava DeJackome scored twice for the Sens, which won their fourth game in a row after starting the season 0-5. Nevaeh Woods also found the back of the net in the victory, and Shea Woods registered a pair of assists.

Goalie Zoey Woodard made two saves for Mahar (4-5), which looks to keep the momentum rolling on Friday with a big game at Northampton.

Westfield 8, Mohawk Trail 1 — Rachel Pease had the lone Warrior goal in a loss to the Bombers in Buckland on Wednesday. 

Cleome Gardner made 15 saves for Mohawk Trail. 

Northampton 2, Turners 0 — The Blue Devils scored twice in the first quarter to earn a win over the Thunder in Turners on Wednesday. 

Conner Herzig made nine saves in goal for Turners. 

Boys cross country

PVCICS 21, Pioneer 38
Smith Vocational 27, Pioneer 28 —
Griffin de Ruiter placed fifth overall (20 minutes, 49 seconds) while Carter Berthiaume came in seventh (20:50) for the Panthers in a meet against the Dragons and the Vikings at Hampshire College on Wednesday. 

Girls cross country

PVCICS 15, Pioneer 50 — Mia Shaw ran for the Panthers and placed eight overall in a loss to the Dragons at Hampshire College on Wednesday. 

Deerfield results

Five Deerfield Academy teams were in action on Wednesday, with the DA field hockey team earning a 1-0 wni over Milton while the Big Green boys water polo team beat Suffield, 14-8. 

DA's boys soccer team tied Taft, 2-2, while its girls soccer team lost to Taft, 2-1. In girls volleyball the Big Green lost to Loomis, 3-0.

Amherst 3, Mohawk Trail 0 — The Hurricanes got o ut t o a fast start against the Warriors and didn’t look back, with Mohawk Trail falling 25-16, 25-8, 25-17 in an independent match in Amherst on Tuesday. 

Palmer King had four assists and two kills, Emma Canaday had a pair of assists and kills while Jade Wheeler came up with seven digs for the Warriors.
