H.S. Roundup: Mojallali, Johnson win trio of events to lift Mohawk Trail boys track past Pioneer

Chay Mojallali won the triple jump (39 feet, one inch), the 110 hurdles (18.7 seconds) and the high jump (5-2) while Will Van Vleet came in first in the shot put (32-8.5) and discus (98-7) to help lift the Mohawk Trail boys track team to an 86-52 victory over Pioneer in Buckland on Friday. 

Emmett Johnson took the pole vault (7-6), 800 (22:09.2) and the two mile (11:44) for Mohawk Trail. The Warriors also won the 4x400 relay (4:09.5). 

Jonathan Bodenstein won the long jump (17-0.25), the 100 (12.0) and the 200 (24.9) for Pioneer. 

Baseball

Frontier 5, Hampshire 2 — Liam Skribiski-Banack was dealing for the Redhawks, going the distance, striking out five and allowing just two hits to lift Frontier to a Suburban League West victory in Westhampton on Friday. 

Eathon Bryant knocked three hits and drove in a run, Wyatt Edes brought in a pair of runs, Tyler Cusson had an RBI double while Brady Poreda had four walks and four stolen bases for Frontier. 

Drew Thompson struck out six while Liam Pond had a single and a sac fly RBI for Hampshire. 

Easthampton 8, Athol 7 — Alex Lavigne knocked in Aedan Erickson for the game-tying run in the top of the seventh for the Bears, but the Eagles responded by getting the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame, with Athol falling in a Suburban League West contest. 

Riley Young was a home run away from hitting for the cycle for the Bears. Eli Wein and Erickson each tallied a pair of hits while James Williams hit safely in the loss.

Hopkins 8, Greenfield 3 — Michael Pierce smashed three hits including a double in the Green Wave’s loss to the Golden Hawks on Friday at Vets Field. 

Yuuki Ishida cracked three hits for Hopkins while Liam Flynn picked up the win on the mound. 

McCann Tech 10, Turners 3 — Alex Quezada knocked three hits and drove in two runs in the Thunders’ loss to the Hornets in North Adams on Friday. 

Cam Burnett and Michael Shinall hit safely for Turners. 

Mahar 4, Mohawk Trail 3 — The Warriors scored twice in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead but the Sens fought back to score two of their own in the bottom of the frame to come away with a Bi-County North victory in Orange on Friday. 

Nate Danielson had a pair of hits and an RBI, Jeremy Vezina drove in a run with a single, Matt Vitello doubled and knocked in a run while Will Barnes hit safely in the victory for Mahar. Barnes struck out six on the mound. 

Softball

Turners 14, Athol 0 — Madi Liimatainen and Madisyn Dietz combined to toss a five-inning no-hitter for the Thunder, Liimatainen pitching the first four innings and striking out 10 while Dietz tossed the fifth and didn’t allow a hit as Turners picked up an independent win over the visiting Bears on Friday. 

Liimatainen knocked a single, a double and drove in two runs at the plate. Holly Myers had a hit and knocked in two runs, Janelle Massey had an RBI single while Ivy Lopez hit safely in the victory. 

Mount Greylock 15, Mohawk Trail 2 — Addie Loomis and Abi Dobias each doubled for the Warriors in a loss to the Mounties on Friday in Buckland. 

Aileen Moffatt and Abby Moffatt each had a base hit while Riley Giard struck out three in the loss for Mohawk Trail. 

Boys volleyball

Frontier 3, Ware 0 — Another match, another win for the Redhawks, who won their sixth in a row by defeating Ware 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 on Friday in Ware. 

Owen Babb smashed 11 kills, Jesse Kurkulonis tallied 10 kills, Brady Burch recorded eight kills while Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 31 assists in the victory. 

The Frontier JV team knocked off Ware, 3-0. 

Boys tennis

Frontier 3, PVCICS 2 — The Redhawks improved to 5-0 on the season, with Coleman Hartner winning a crucial 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 match in No. 2 singles to keep Frontier’s unbeaten season in tact. 

Jacob Han earned a 7-5, 6-3 win in No. 3 singles while Caiden Manning and Xavier Fripp picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 2 doubles for the Redhawks.
