GILL — A woman was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield on Wednesday evening after being extricated from the vehicle she was driving when it collided head-on with a pickup truck near 129 Barney Hale Road.
Emergency personnel removed the woman, who was not identified, from a heavily damaged Honda CR-V at around 5:30 p.m. and loaded her into an AMR ambulance. Gill Police Chief Christopher Redmond said the 911 call came in at 4:56 p.m.
The driver of the GMC Sierra pickup was uninjured. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
After the woman was placed in the ambulance, Redmond said the crash is under investigation, though it appears the Honda was heading northbound and the pickup was coming south at the time of the collision.
“Obviously, this section of road does have some visibility issues, with the hills,” he said. “I don’t really know the status of her injuries. She was alert but in pain — but conscious.”
Debris from the vehicles littered the roadway. The pickup came to rest on its driver’s side off the right side of the road. Both vehicles were towed.
The Gill Police Department was assisted by the Gill Fire Department and Erving Police Department.
