CHARLEMONT — Hawlemont Regional School Principal Lindsay Rodriguez announced her departure from the position on Nov. 30, with her last day being Dec. 1.

Rodriguez became principal in fall of 2018 after teaching at the school around six years prior. She could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

Sheryl Stanton, superintendent of Mohawk Trail and Hawlemont regional school districts, declined to comment on the reason for Rodriguez’s sudden departure, saying her leaving is a “personnel issue.” In the interim, Amber Tulloch, a teacher with the school’s Hawlemont, Agriculture and You (HAY) program, will serve as acting principal.

Stanton said she and Tulloch are engaged in discussions about “longer interim potential.” Stanton also said she and her staff will work to put together a hiring committee as soon as possible to permanently fill the vacancy.

“Right now, given the notice yesterday, we’re going to be working over the next few days,” Stanton said, speaking by phone on Wednesday.

She could not pinpoint a timeline by which the hiring process is expected to be completed, but said the steps to follow would include application review, interviews by the hiring committee, interviews by the district leadership team, and finally, a meeting with Stanton.

“We have mixed emotions about her leaving,” she said of Rodriguez, “but we do have a plan to move forward.”

Stanton concluded by wishing Rodriguez well.

“I wish Principal Rodriguez the very best in her next steps,” she said, “and I wish our staff the very best as we take our next steps to move forward.”
