HS Roundup: Pioneer boys basketball moves to 8-0 following 76-45 victory over Drury (PHOTOS)

Another test passed by the Pioneer boys basketball team.
Hosting Hampshire League South rival Drury on Thursday, the Panthers took a 21-15 lead after eight minutes before outscoring the Blue Devils 23-10 in the second quarter to hold a 44-25 advantage going into intermission.
Pioneer never let Drury get back in the game in the second half, keeping its unbeaten season alive and moving to 8-0 on the year with a 76-45 triumph at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.
“It was a good defensive effort,” Panthers coach Scott Thayer said. “Jackson Glazier and Ben Werner did a great job on their big guy. When we bring energy, enthusiasm and effort on defense, we can be a pretty good team. We don’t do it all the time but it’s happening more and more now and we’re gaining confidence in it. I’m very pleased with the effort we gave this week.”
It was Kurt Redeker who had his way offensively on Thursday, finishing with 29 points. Brayden Thayer tallied 19 points, seven assists and three steals, Alex McClelland finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals, Will Glazier tossed in five points while Jackson Glazier recorded three points, three rebounds and four assists in the win.
Hampshire 41, Athol 34 — The Bears shot 0-for-18 from 3-point range in a Hampshire League North road loss on Thursday night in Westhampton.
Ethan Goodwin's 12 points paced Athol, while Logan Cormier scored eight points and Ben Kearney added seven.
Greenfield 104, Franklin Tech 44 — The Green Wave went over the century mark at Nichols Gymnasium, leading 56-23 at the half to earn an independent victory Thursday.

Frontier 48, Hopkins 29 — The Redhawk defense limited the Golden Hawks to seven points in the first half to earn a Hampshire League South victory at Goodnow Gymnasium Thursday.
Diego Frazier led the way with 10 points, Garrett Dredge and Alex Ellis both scored nine points and Carter Miller added seven points for Frontier.
Lee 60, Turners 51 — Caden Williams-Senethavisouk scored 11 points while Frielyn Abarua added 10 points for the Thunder, which fell to the Wildcats in Turners Thursday.
Lee led 28-20 at the half.
Alex Quezada tallied nine points, Jackson Cogswell scored eight points and Cameron Johnson added six points for Turners.
Four Rivers 44, St. Michael’s 37 — Eliot Sanborn paced the Otters with 11 points, leading them to a victory on Thursday.
Kolin Broderick added 10 points while Meir Dragon blocked four shots for Four Rivers.
Renaissance 70, Franklin Tech 15 — The Phoenix pulled ahead 37-7 at the half to knock off the Eagles in Turners Thursday.
Hannah Gilbert scored five points while Brayleigh Burgh and Lilianna Inman each had three points for Franklin Tech.
Ware 39, Athol 24 — The Bears held Ware to just three points in the first quarter, but Ware ultimately took a 21-8 lead into the break to defeat Athol at Mallet Gymnasium Thursday.
Wrestling
Franklin Tech 40, Athol 38 — It was an important Suburban League North battle in Turners on Wednesday between the Bears and the Eagles.
Both teams were able to fill each weight class, with the match coming down to the wire. Both teams won seven matches, though Franklin Tech was able to squeak out a win.
Paul Giard (113), Carsten Couture (120), Maxon Brunette (126), Mia Marigliano (132), Camden Bonnett (150) and Jackson Morey (190) won via pin while Benjamin Baker earned a 4-3 win at 165 for the Eagles.
Kayden Rodriguez (106), Evan Ke (138), Anthony Lopez-Hippler (157), Marc Gould (175) and Timothy Gerry (215) won via pin for the Bears. Brady O’Connell won by technical fall, 17-1, at 144 while Nicholas Leblanc earned a 9-5 win at 285 for Athol.
Hampshire 53, Mohawk Trail 30 — Daniel Gougeon (113), Wade Purington (120), Derik Pazmino (132), Logan Moore (157) and Christopher Gianfrancesco (165) won via pin for the Warriors in a loss to the Raiders in Buckland Wednesday.
