The Greenfield volleyball team is finding its groove down the final stretch of the season. 

After a 2-4 start to the year, the Green Wave won four-of-five heading into Tuesday’s Northern League contest against Franklin Tech. There, Greenfield dropped the opening set but won the ensuing three to move to 7-5 on the season with a 3-1 victory at Nichols Gymnasium. 

The Eagles took the opening set, 25-23, but it was all the Wave from there, who earned set wins of 25-23, 25-16, 25-21 to seal the win. 

Shelby O’Leary had four aces, one kill, 10 digs and 12 assists, Jenna Petrowicz tallied two aces, four kills and seven digs, Sarah Beckwith had five aces, four kills, nine digs and one block while Madison Pettengill had one ace, three kills, four digs and three blocks for Tech. Greenfield stats were not available at press time. 

Mohawk Trail 3, Athol 0 — The Warriors moved to 10-1 on the season with a 25-9, 25-19, 25-13 win over the Bears in Athol Tuesday. 

Abby Spooner (two kills, two assists, five digs), Ella Reed (two kills, two assists) and Giana Vaillancourt (two kills, two aces) played well for Athol. Athol JV won, 2-1. 

Turners 3, Mahar 2 — The Thunder played in their sixth five set match of the season on Tuesday, earning a 21-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 16-14 win in Orange Tuesday. 

Madleynn Burgess tallied five aces, two  kills, four digs and 10 assists while Hayden Comeau (four aces, five kills, eight digs, four blocks), Mia Santana (two aces, four kills) and Mckenzie Scribner (two aces, seven digs) played well for Mahar.

Field hockey

Frontier 7, West Springfield 0 — Nora Sloan and Addie Harrington each potted a pair of goals as the Redhawks extended their unbeaten streak to 10 with a victory over the Terriers in West Springfield Tuesday. 

Macy DeMaio, Ashley Taylor and Lauryn Kalinowski also scored while Ashlie Galenski, Delaney Fifield, Amelia Bouchard, Brynna Fahey and Kate Walker provided the assists. 

Kyra Richards did not see a shot in three quarters of action before Brooke Charest made two saves in the fourth for Frontier.

Boys soccer

Frontier 1, Hampshire 1 — Both the Redhawks and the Raiders tallied in the first half but neither lit up the scoreboard during the final 40 minutes, with Frontier earning a key independent draw in South Deerfield Monday. 

Ian Paciorek scored off an assist from Gus Radner in the 26th minute for the Redhawks’ lone goal. Jack Cusson made five saves in the tie.
