TURNERS FALLS — A pair of unbeaten wrestling teams met up in Turners Falls on Wednesday.
The Franklin Tech and Frontier wrestling teams went at it in a big time Suburban League North match, though it was the Eagles who came out firing.
Franklin Tech won the opening four matches to set the tone, leading to a 59-22 Eagle victory.
After sharing a league title with Athol last year, Franklin Tech (4-0, 2-0) is looking for an outright title this winter.
“We’re looking good this season,” Eagle Carsten Couture said. “We want to win our league. Last year we shared with Athol but this year we’re looking for our own.”
Couture picked up a win by technical fall at 120 on Wednesday. Paul Giard (113), Maxon Brunette (126), Mia Marigliano (132), Conner Herzig (144), Camden Bonnett (150), Oliver Schwenger-Sartz (165) and Travis Eastman (175) were the Franklin Tech winners in the match to secure the victory.
For Marigliano, who won via pin with under one minute to go in the third against Zach Brown, it was all about having the right frame of mind to make the right moves.
“I just feel like I struggled to feel confident to shoot my shot,” Marigliano said. “He wasn’t giving me anything. It was close but once it got on the mat it was good from there.”

Hoping to make it back to New England’s, Marigliano is feeling confident in how the season has gone for her team despite dealing with missing players.
“There’s been some people on and off with sicknesses and injuries,” “We have a lot of people filling other peoples shoes. I feel like we’re all pretty tough and put up a good fight.”
Couture said the Franklin Tech team is close, which has helped the Eagles get rolling from the jump.
“A lot of it is mindset,” Couture said. “You can’t worry about what the other person has done. You just have to go out and wrestle your match. We work hard in practice and grow as a family as the season goes on.”
Massima Dibari (138), Konnor James (157), Kaden James (215) and Max Hunter (285) were the winners for Frontier, with Hunter noting he’s proud of the way his team has competed all season.
“We were undefeated coming in but they’re a very good team,” Hunter said. “I’m confident in our group. They just have more experience than us.”

Mahar 61, Greenfield 50 — The Senators brought their best in a big Hampshire League South showdown in Orange on Tuesday, leading 31-17 at the break and holding off the hard charging Wave in the second half to pick up a 61-50 victory.
“It was a terrific team effort tonight where everyone contributed and hopefully we can take a breath and we can right the ship,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “Lack of mental toughness and stubbornness have really done us in so far but I thought the guys checked their egos at the door tonight and played Mahar basketball.”
