It was a big showdown in the Franklin County League South between the Franklin Tech and Pioneer girls basketball teams on Friday. 

A Kyra Goodell layup gave the visiting Eagles a 39-33 lead with two minutes to go. Pioneer’s Addison Harrington drilled a 3-pointer with one minute to go to cut the lead to 39-36 but it was the last basket the Panthers would score.

Kait Trudeau put the game away with a pair of free throws with 12 seconds to go to lift Franklin Tech to a 41-36 victory at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield. 

The Eagles (6-2) held a 34-30 lead with four minutes to play before Hannah Gilbert knocked down a 3 to extend the Eagles’ lead. Harrington responded with a 3 that cut the deficit to 37-33 with 2:30 to play for Pioneer (2-2). 

Franklin Tech led at the end of each quarter, holding a 9-5 advantage after eight minutes, a 16-13 lead at the half and a 27-24 lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Gilbert finished with 14 points and five assists, Trudeau scored 10 points, Goodell scored eight points while Lea Chapman recorded seven points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles. 

Frontier 49, Mahar 37 — The Redhawks made it six wins in a row to open the season, with Jazzy Hayes’ 12 points helping lead Frontier to a Franklin County League North win over the Sens in Orange on Friday. 

Skyler Steele finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, Olivia Machon scored seven points, Whitney Campbell and Claire Kirkendall both scored six points while Hailey Hutkoski recorded five points for the Redhawks. Kirkendall added 12 rebounds and three assists while Harper Modestow pulled down 10 rebounds in the win. 

Hayden Comeau tallied a 16 points, 12 rebound double-double, Nevaeh Scribner scored 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Irati Martinez tallied four points while Alivia Patch had three points for Mahar. 

Lenox 45, Greenfield 39 (OT) — The Green Wave held a 32-20 lead going into the fourth quarter but the Millionaires saved their best for last, outscoring Greenfield 17-5 in the final eight minutes to force overtime with the game tied at 37. 

Lenox held the momentum through overtime and outscored the Green Wave 8-2 to pull away with a Franklin County League North win in Lenox on Friday. 

Amber Bergeron knocked down three 3’s en route to a team-high 27 points for Greenfield. Tayler Bergeron scored five points, Anna Bucala had three points while Carly Blanchard and Gloria McDonald both had two points in the loss. 

Putnam 47, Mohawk Trail 39 — The Warriors trailed by as many as 16 in the second half but were able to storm back and cut the lead to 41-39 in the fourth quarter. Putnam pulled away late to hang on for a Franklin County League South win in Buckland on Friday. 

Natalie Lanoue scored 12 points, Rachel Pease finished with eight points, Valerie Bzomowski tallied seven points, Bella Pettengill had six points while Riley Giard added four points for Mohawk Trail.

Boys basketball

Greenfield 59, Hopkins 51 — Jon Breor’s 25 points and 16 rebounds powered the Green Wave to a Hampshire League South win over the Golden Hawks in Hadley on Thursday. 

Caleb Murray scored 12 points, Caleb Thomas and Grayson Thomas each scored seven points while Ollie Postera had four points for Greenfield. 

The Green Wave trailed 31-27 at the half but rallied in the third to take a 47-43 lead going into the fourth. 

Wrestling

Frontier 42, Mohawk Trail 12 — Jaxson Byrne (113) , Jocelyn Antes (120) and Konnor James (157) picked up wins for the Redhawks in a 42-14 victory over the Warriors on Thursday. 

Logan Moore had the lone win for Mohawk Trail at 150 over Ben Baker. Daniel Gougeon, Luke Read and Oliver Schwenger-Sartz also competed for the Warriors.  

Frontier 34, Hampshire 34 — The Redhawks also competed against the Raiders on Thursday, finishing in a 34-34 tie after Ber Calhoun (106), Byrne (113) and Wyatt Finch (126) got wins on the mat for Frontier. 

Antes (120) and Baker (144) also competed for the Redhawks.
