It was a fast start from the Mohawk Trail volleyball team on Tuesday against Mahar. 

The Warriors came away with a 25-13 victory in the opening set and didn’t look back, winning the second set by a score of 25-10 before closing things out with a 25-16 win in the third set to walk away with a 3-0 Northern League sweep over the Senators in Orange. 

Palmer King led the way with eight aces, 12 assists and three kills for Mohawk Trail. Emma Canaday recorded three assists and five kills, Grace Davenport put down three aces and two kills while Sophia Goodnow finished with three kills and two aces in the victory. 

Mia Santana dished five assists and put down two aces, Madelynn Burgess recorded five assists and one ace, Mckenzie Scribner had an assist and made eight digs while Hayden Comeau tallied an ace, two kills and four digs for Mahar. 

Athol 3, Hampden Charter East 0 — A dominant performance from the service line helped the Bears to a 25-18, 25-17, 25-13 independent sweep on Tuesday.

Athol (2-3) racked up 18 aces in the win, including four apiece from Anna Duquette, Aubrey Fortin and Evelyn Robinson.

Alma White dished out eight assists for the Bears, which were led offensively by Duquette’s six kills and three from Olivia Mayer.

Franklin Tech 3, Pioneer 0 — Lea Chapman did a little bit of everything in the Eagles’ sweep of the Panthers on Tuesday.

Chapman racked up 13 kills, six aces, three digs and a block en route to a 25-22, 25-15, 25-10 sweep.

Jenna Petrowicz added three aces and four kills for Franklin Tech (3-3), and Amelia Rider tossed in two aces, a kill and three digs.

Turners 3, Greenfield 0 — The Thunder got going early to earn a 25-6, 25-10, 25-12 Northern League sweep over rival Greenfield at Nichols Gymnasium on Tuesday. 

Taylor Greene tossed 12 assists and added one kill and two aces, Madi Liimatainen put down eight kills and one ace, Keira Richardson-Meaty tallied seven aces while Maddie Dietz finished with four aces for Turners. 

Odyssea Camero Rivera distributed six assists, Mackensie Goncalves smashed six kills while Julia Belville and Savannah Aldrich each had two kills for the Green Wave. 

Field hockey

Mahar 4, Turners 3 — Ava Dejackome and Lillian Rathburn each put in a pair of goals to lift the Senators to their first win of the season, defeating the host Thunder in a Valley League contest on Tuesday. 

Shea Woods and Makayla Beauchemin each had an assist in the victory. 

Ledwin Villafana finished with two goals while Avery Tela also found the back of the net for Turners. Ella Guidaboni and Vallafana each had an assist in the loss. 

Longmeadow 3, Greenfield 0 — The defending Division 2 state champions scored twice in the final eight minutes to pull away for a 3-0 Suburban League victory on Tuesday at Vets Field in Greenfield.

Longmeadow (3-0-2) led 1-0 into the fourth quarter before putting a pair of late tallies into the back of the cage. Greenfield goalie Ainslee Flynn had held the Lancers in check for most of the afternoon, making several highlight-reel stops and finishing with 13 saves. Longmeadow also racked up 13 penalty corners in the win.

Greenfield (3-1) will look to quickly turn the page when it hosts West Springfield on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Golf

Pioneer 162, Greenfield 200 — Ethan Mauthe was the match medalist with a 37 to help propel the Panthers to a victory over the Green Wave at Northfield Golf Course on Tuesday. 

Ben Werner shot a 38, Brayden Thayer carded a 41 while Hugh Cyhowski finished with a 46 to close out the Pioneer scoring. 

Preston LaFleur led Greenfield with a 44 while John Marchefka (47), Michael Pierce (54) and Conner Bergeron (55) rounded out the Green Wave scorers. 

Frontier 185, Chicopee 260 — Ryan Cetto’s 39 set the tone for the Redhawks in a dominant victory on Tuesday at Chicopee Country Club.

Addy Wood and Gabe Solodky followed with identical rounds of 47 for Frontier, and Porter Hall capped the scoring with a 52.

Turners 173, Hopkins 181 — Reese Ewell shot a match-low 38 to help lead the Thunder to a victory over the Golden Hawks at the Holyoke Country Club on Tuesday. 

Joey Mosca shot a 41, Jack Day finished with a 44 while Darian Burnett carded a 50 to close out the Turners scorers. 

Hampshire 175, Mohawk Trail 201 — Logan Moore shot a team-low 44 for the Warriors in a loss to the Raiders at the Edge Hill Golf Course on Tuesday. 

Phinneas Tuttman (48), Douglas Wilcox (52) and Deegan Kelleher (57) also scored for Mohawk Trail. 

Boys cross country

Frontier 17, Hopkins 46
Frontier 18, McCann Tech 45 —
Redhawks Luke Howard and Evan Hedlund came across the finish line at the 15 minute, 52 second mark, tying for first overall at the meet as Frontier picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday at Hopkins on Tuesday. 

Charlie Dennis took fourth (17:10), Oliver Brown placed sixth (17:27) while Amory Maxey finished in seventh (17:28) to round out the Frontier point scorers.

Southwick 27, Mohawk Trail 30 —
Vincent Gauthier was the overall winner with a time of 14:36, helping the Warriors earn a win in a four team meet in Buckland on Tuesday. 

Peter Healy placed third (16:04), Rex Kuoppala came in eighth (17:00), Aymeric Loucka finished in 13th (17:44) while Carson Richardson earned 21st (18:52) for Mohawk Trail. 

Girls cross country

Frontier 15, Hopkins 50
Frontier 17, McCann 45 —
The Redhawks had the top three finishers in a meet at Hopkins on Tuesday, with Leah Gump placing first (18:33), Sylvie DiBartolomeo taking second (19:22) and Nicole Plasse finishing in third (19:35) to lift Frontier to wins over the Golden Hawks and the Hornets. 

Maia Christensen earned sixth (20:40) while Liv Christensen placed seventh (20:56) for the Redhawks in the victory.

Mohawk Trail 16, Southwick 39 —
The first four runners across the finish line were all donning Warrior uniforms, leading Mohawk Trail to a trio of wins in Buckland on Tuesday. 

Natalie Lanoue was the first runner across (19:24), Anya Read took second (19:37), Valerie Bzomowski finished in thi rd (19:47) while Virginia Krezmien earned fourth (20:05) for the Warriors. Katie Osterman placed 13th (22:51) to round out the Mohawk Trail scorers.
