Two men face weapons, drug charges after Greenfield traffic stops

GREENFIELD — State Police detectives and Greenfield Police with the Northwestern District Attorney’s Anti-Crime Task Force made two drug- and weapons-related arrests while conducting traffic stops this month.

According to Laurie Loisel, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Thomas Evans, 22, of Keene, New Hampshire, was arrested on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition and trafficking in cocaine. Additionally, Christopher Gonyea, 34, of Ashfield, was arrested on charges of possession of a Class A substance (heroin/fentanyl), possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) and possession of a Class E substance.

Evans was pulled over near the intersection of Wells and Grove streets in Greenfield at 8:30 p.m. on June 3. He was arrested after police found a loaded handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine as well as additional ammunition and roughly 79 grams of cocaine in his vehicle. He was arraigned in Greenfield District Court on June 5 and ordered held on $5,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on July 3.

Gonyea was stopped on Bernardston Road in Greenfield at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and found to be in possession of heroin and cocaine. He was arraigned in the Greenfield District Court on Thursday and was released on personal recognizance. He is due back in court on Aug. 21.
