GREENFIELD — The town will offer free parking for the holidays on Fridays and Saturdays from Nov. 24 to Dec. 30 in municipal lots.

“We try to accommodate the shoppers and local businesses with free parking during the holidays,” Mayor William Martin said in a news release. “We hope this small gesture encourages local shopping and brings our community together in the spirit of these holidays.”

The Greenfield Business Association requested that the town again provide free holiday parking in municipal lots, and the Parking and Traffic Committee sent a recommendation to the mayor during its November meeting.

All other parking regulations will continue to be enforced — in particular, spaces labeled “permit only” in municipal lots will continue to be for permit holders only on Fridays. Paid parking will continue to be enforced for all on-street metered spaces.

Municipal lots with free holiday parking are: Ames Street Lot, Downtown Economy Lot between Chapman and Davis streets, Fiske Avenue Lot, Fire Station Lot, Hope Street Lot, Legion Avenue Lot, Miles Street Lot, Pleasant Street Lot and the Town Hall Lot.
