GREENFIELD — Mayor Roxann Wedegartner plans to hold a listening session next week regarding the funding the city will receive through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

The American Rescue Plan Act, which was signed into law in March, provides $1.9 trillion for continued COVID-19 response and recovery, including $350 billion for the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, according to Of which, Greenfield has been awarded $5.1 million that it will receive in several installments, according to a press release from the city.

“I look forward to updating our citizens on the American Rescue Plan Act grant and how it can benefit many aspects of our city that have been devastated by the economic, social and structural impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Wedegartner said in the release.

The listening session, which will be held remotely via Webex at, is scheduled to take place Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The four categories the funding can be used for include: responding to the public health emergency with respect to COVID-19 or its negative economic impacts; providing premium pay to employees performing essential work during the COVID-19 pandemic; providing government services to the extent of a government’s reduction in revenue due to COVID-19; and investing in sewer, water or broadband infrastructure.

“Each of the four (categories) has restrictions in it,” Wedegartner previously said. “It took a while for (Finance Director) Liz Gilman and I to figure out what the restrictions were so we could even think about a viable list of projects we might want to do.”

Following the presentation — during which Wedegartner will explain further how the money can and cannot be used — the floor will be open for public comment.

Those who cannot attend on Monday are encouraged to send their input via email to Please write “ARPA Suggestions” in the subject line.
