DEERFIELD — A Greenfield man was issued a criminal summons following a crash on Pine Nook Road in Deerfield on Thursday afternoon, which required the help of several area departments and State Police to search for him after he allegedly left the scene.

Lawrence Harnois, 55, with a last-known address in Greenfield, was issued a criminal summons for operating to endanger, failure to maintain a travel lane, speed greater than reasonable and proper, and operating after license suspension. The summons comes after Harnois allegedly struck a tree and utility pole in the area of 30 Pine Nook Road in Deerfield, according to Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. Paciorek said his department was contacted at around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday about an unoccupied vehicle with airbags deployed and a reported person walking up the road with injuries.

Upon arrival, police officers found “damage to the front windshield from the impact of the operator, with blood present,” but no driver was nearby. Sgt. Jennifer Bartak and Officer Marissa Smith then requested assistance from the Greenfield Fire Department’s Drone Unit and the State Police Airwing, as well as the Sunderland Fire Department and Erving Police Department’s K-9 units, as Harnois was allegedly injured and was missing. Neither Cooley Dickinson Hospital or Baystate Franklin Medical Center reported patients with consistent injuries.

“At 5:53 p.m., the registered owner of the vehicle from Granby provided the operator’s information,” Paciorek said. “At 7:13 p.m., that same owner called back to report the vehicle stolen. She was referred to the Granby Police Department.”

He added that Harnois was found walking along River Road at 9:12 p.m. He was then transported to Baystate Franklin by South County EMS for treatment.

A representative with the Granby Police Department said the department is still investigating the matter.
