Greenfield man charged with child porn, sex offenses

SPRINGFIELD — A Greenfield man was charged with child pornography and sex offenses in federal court in Springfield on Thursday.

Charles Fox, 44, was indicted on one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a child, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of receipt of child pornography, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Fox was arrested on June 26, and charged by criminal complaint.

Fox allegedly induced a minor in the Philippines to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing images. According to court documents, Fox induced the minor through Facebook Messenger, and also received the pornographic images through the same platform. Fox allegedly paid for the images through Western Union payments sent to the Philippines.

Fox is a previously convicted sex offender, and thus faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years, up to 50 years, as well as a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000 if convicted on the exploitation charge. The charge of receipt of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, up to 40 years in prison, a lifetime of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
