Greenfield man arraigned on child rape charges

GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man is being charged with two counts of aggravated rape of a child, two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and unnatural acts with a child after the victim came forward last year.

A report by Greenfield Police Patrol Officer Patricia West indicated a mother and daughter came into the police station on May 28, 2017, with the mother stating her daughter confided in her that Christopher Russo, 37, had sexually assaulted her several years ago.

According to West’s report, an initial interview with the victim revealed Russo “touched her private parts” and “made her touch his private parts” on more than one occasion. The victim, who had known Russo before the incidents, also told police he asked about sex and “tried to put it in, but couldn’t.”

Further interviews by Greenfield Police Patrol Officer Megan Gilbert revealed the incidents began when the victim was 8 years old and continued until she was 10 or 11, according to Gilbert’s report. The victim told police the incidents occurred in the attic bedroom of Russo’s former home on Montague City Road, Gilbert’s report continues.

Having been arraigned in Greenfield District Court Friday, Russo is being held on $15,000 bail or $150,000 surety, with various bail conditions, according to court documents.
