GREENFIELD — A tree planting will be held at the Masonic Center on Wednesday, Oct. 13, in celebration of the 125th anniversary of Arcana Chapter No. 50, the Greenfield chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The tree planting will be one of two to happen at the center on Munson Street in honor of the event, the other of which is scheduled for April of next year, according to a press release from the local chapter.

A formal celebration of the anniversary is scheduled for Oct. 22, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Masonic Center. The event will include a catered social hour and entertainment provided by Celtic storyteller/singer/instrumentalist Jeff Snow of Wilbraham.

The event, which will include state and local community leaders, is open to the public. Interested attendees should contact Theresa Holmes at 413-773-0404 or email tlholmes@umass.edu to register.

The Order of the Eastern Star developed out of the relationship with the Masonic fraternity and has been doing charitable work since it was instituted by Robert Morris in 1850.

Arcana Chapter No. 50 was officially constituted on Dec. 15, 1896 with a membership of 96 Greenfield women and men dedicated to the fraternity whose purpose is to support each other in service to humanity, quietly working to provide for its local and national charitable causes.

The Arcana Chapter in Greenfield was the 50th Eastern Star chapter to be instituted in Massachusetts.
