GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Local Cultural Council has set a Nov. 16 deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support community-oriented arts, humanities and science programs.
“These grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Greenfield, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, or performances in schools, workshops and lectures,” said Cultural Council Chair Linda McInerney.
When considering grant awards, the Cultural Council prioritizes Greenfield-based artists, performers and venues, although others may apply. According to a Cultural Committee press release, the committee is particularly interested in proposals that include a public art component, enhance the local economy, add value to existing initiatives and/or reach the broadest possible audience.
The state Legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which then allocates funding to each local cultural council, of which there are 329 in the state.
Typically, the Greenfield Local Cultural Council awards more than $10,000 in grants each year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the budget for 2021 has yet to be determined, according to the release. Previously funded projects include the One Minute Festival, DinoFest and the Coop Concert Series.
