GREENFIELD — The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. will share a 10-part series of videos about Native American life, past and present, starting on Sunday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The series, called “Indigenous Voices from the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts,” is produced by the Nolumbeka Project and Jennifer Lee of the Northern Narragansett Tribe, in collaboration with Turning Tide Films. The videos are directed by Robbie Leppzer.
Each screening will be followed by discussion with those who were involved in making the series. There is a $5 to $15 sliding scale for admission. Seating is limited so attendees are advised to arrive early.
GREENFIELD — A reception for “Taking Flight,” an exhibit of paintings by Annie Quest and photos by Lindy Whiton, will be held at The LAVA Center, 324 Main St., on Saturday, April 8, from noon to 3 p.m. The exhibit will be on display throughout April.
Whiton has lived in Greenfield all of her adult life. She has been taking photos since her teenage years, but it was not until 2009 when her brother, Paul, gave her a Pentax camera that she began pursuing photography as not only an artist, but as a way to document all of the beauty of life around her during a transformative time.
Quest has been a theater director, stage and lighting designer, jewelry maker, painter and musician for decades. Having performed throughout New England, she is now concentrating her energies on painting. She teaches art, art history and social emotional learning at the Greenwood School in Putney, Vermont.
