The Reptile Nook visiting library

GREENFIELD — Agawam-based outreach program The Reptile Nook is bringing reptiles to the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, July 24, at 6 p.m.

The program is open to families with children ages 3 to 12. Attendees will be able to see a variety of reptiles up close and learn about them. The program is free, but registration is required.

Those interested in attending can contact Children’s Librarian Ellen Lavoie at ellen.lavoie@greenfield-ma.gov or call 413-772-1544, ext. 5104. Alternatively, registration is also available online through the events calendar at greenfieldpubliclibrary.org.

July 23: Virtual author talk with Elizabeth Acevedo

GREENFIELD — In partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium, the Greenfield Public Library invites residents to a virtual talk with National Book Award-winning author Elizabeth Acevedo on Tuesday, July 23, at 2 p.m. Acevedo will read her novel-in-verse “The Poet X.”

“The Poet X” is about the Afro-Latina heroine, Xiomara Batista, who feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood.

Mayor, Recreation Department welcome community to park walks

GREENFIELD — Mayor Ginny Desorgher and the Recreation Department will host their debut public engagement series, “Walk in the Park with Mayor Desorgher” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, at Hillside Park.

This ongoing series aims to provide residents with an opportunity to meet Desorgher and learn more about what is happening in Greenfield. Each walk will take place on the third Thursday of the month from July to October. While the 6 p.m. start time remains the same, each walk will take place at a different recreation destination in Greenfield.

■Aug. 15 — Green River Park.

■Sept. 19 — Shattuck Park.

■Oct. 17 — Highland Park.

“Two of my favorite pastimes are connecting with the community and enjoying a scenic walk,” Desorgher said in a statement. “I look forward to meeting Greenfield residents during this terrific series organized by our Recreation Department.”

The Lesters travel around the country sharing their music and love for Jesus Christ. The family has been singing since 1925.
