Resident to share experience withterminal cancer

GREENFIELD — Eve Bogdanove, a Greenfield resident for nearly 20 years, will share her experience living with terminal cancer at the Greenfield Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m.

In November 2022, Bogdanove was diagnosed with metastatic uveal melanoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Faced with an urgent need to prepare for end of life and research experimental clinical trials with hopes to extend her life, Bogdanove ended her career as a social worker, educator and trauma therapist, and began learning how to surf the waves of fear and hope and live life to the fullest.

Author to explain ‘Radical Candor’ feedback framework

GREENFIELD — In partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium, the Greenfield Public Library invites residents to a virtual talk with Kim Scott, author of “Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity,” on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.

Scott will explain the “Radical Candor” feedback framework and how to practice it. She’ll offer practical tips for how to solicit criticism, give praise and criticism, gauge how what you’re saying is landing and build a culture of Radical Candor. She’ll also discuss ensuring that bias, prejudice and bullying don’t masquerade as feedback.

Library presentsaudio documentary by Sunderlandfolklorists

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library will present “New Lights in the Dawnland” on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m.

The oral history project led by Sunderland-based folklorists Michael and Carrie Kline features regional Indigenous voices and encompasses nearly 13,000 years of native history in a two-hour audio documentary.

“New Lights in the Dawnland” includes interviews with David Brule, president of the Nolumbeka Project; Northfield resident Joe Graveline, the Nolumbeka Project’s co-founder; Vermont resident Rich Holschuh of the Elnu Abenaki Tribe; and Doug Harris, a former Narragansett deputy tribal historic preservation officer. Additional narration is provided by Chief Roger Longtoe Sheehan of the Elnu Abenaki Tribe, who also provides traditional drumming, singing and flute music.

GREENFIELD — The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. hosts a monthly series, Writers Read, on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Reading on March 13 will be Richard Michelson, Cherryl Jensen and Alice Barrett.

Michelson has received a National Jewish Book Award, and his work was chosen to represent Massachusetts at the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. He served two terms as poet laureate of Northampton, where he hosts Northampton Poetry Radio and owns R. Michelson Galleries.

Jensen, an Easthampton resident, received her master’s degree in fine arts from the Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2022. Her writing has appeared in Past Ten, Persimmon Tree, Concrete Wolf, Northern New England Review and Psychiatric Services, among other publications.

Barrett published her first book of poetry, “The Bridge,” in 2018. She enjoys writing about herself in the third person.

Artspace seeks volunteers for 45th annual market

GREENFIELD — Artspace Community Arts Center is seeking volunteers to assist before, during and after its 45th annual Artspace Market set for Saturday, April 6, at Greenfield High School.

Examples of how volunteers can assist include posting flyers around the city, setting up vendor tables at the school, wrapping purchases, and helping vendors pack up at the end of the day.
