Electric vehicle chargers installed in Greenfield

GREENFIELD — Two electric vehicle charging stations that can each charge two vehicles at a time have been installed in the Greenfield Public Library parking lot, bringing the number of city-owned chargers to 14.

Additional chargers will be installed at the new Greenfield Fire Station and to replace the current City Hall unit.

Starting Sept. 5, the fee to charge at all city-owned ChargePoint EV chargers will be 28 cents per kilowatt-hour to cover the city’s electricity and networking fees.

The new chargers provide more capabilities than the original units, including faster charging speeds, letting drivers check whether units are available and sending texts to drivers when charging is complete. In addition to the four plugs at the library, there are eight plugs in the Olive Street parking garage and two in the parking lot between Chapman and Davis streets.

Artspace seeks community input for clay studio

GREENFIELD — Artspace Community Arts Center has been awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and MassDevelopment to explore the creation of a community ceramics studio, and is seeking input from the community to inform the planning process.

Although Franklin County has a robust ceramic arts community, there is currently no place to take a ceramics class in Greenfield. Artspace aims to develop an accessible, fully equipped clay studio that serves all ages and abilities, from youth and teen programming to adult classes and professional workshops. Artspace also aims to collaborate with and serve the community of established ceramic artists in the Pioneer Valley and Franklin County.

Artspace has partnered with the University of Massachusetts Arts Extension service to gather input from the community to inform the planning process. This will take place through community interviews, focus groups and a widely distributed survey.

Those who are interested in offering input during this early stage of the planning process should go to Artspace’s homepage, artspacegreenfield.com, and click on “Take Our Survey.” The survey will be open until Sept. 14.
