Soapbox ‘build parties’ welcome participants

GREENFIELD — In advance of a soapbox race planned for Sept. 12, racers are encouraged to attend a soapbox “build party” on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind City Hall.

“Bring your cart in whatever shape it currently is in, and any other parts or materials you plan on adding, and prepare for a morning of creative planning and fun construction,” reads a newsletter from race organizers. “We will have extra parts on hand, such as metal tubing and bike parts, including a few wheels.”

Participants are advised to transport their carts and materials in a truck if possible, rather than on a trailer, as parking is limited.

There is also a build party Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon outside Nova Motorcycles on Second Street in Turners Falls. Registration isn’t required for either build party.
