Pastel exhibit coming to Artspace

GREENFIELD — The Mill Street Artists, a group that originally practiced pastels under Becky Clark for nearly a decade, has a group showcase at Artspace Community Arts Center, 15 Mill St., on display through Thursday, April 27.

The exhibit showcases work by artists Claire Blatchford, Cliff Carlson, Carolyn Gross, Liza O’Neil and Shannon Shreve. The group will be selling prints and original artwork during an opening reception on Friday, April 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Work on display will be available for purchase.

Traprock holding rally against budget militarization

GREENFIELD — As the deadline for filing taxes approaches, the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice’s Franklin County for Peace group is holding an informative rally focused on the militarization of the federal budget on the Greenfield Common at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15.

Confirmed speakers for the event include Aaron Falbel, Betsy Corner, Merri Ansara for Massachusetts Peace Action and Eric Wasileski from Veterans for Peace. Performing musicians include Tom Neilson and Lynn Waldron, The Raging Grannies and Annie Hassett.

environmentalist speaking at
Greenfield church

GREENFIELD — Aaron Mair, a longtime environmental activist, former president of the Sierra Club environmental nonprofit and current Sierra Club board member, will speak as part of the Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew’s “Environmental Sunday” series on April 16, at 2 p.m. He will talk about his experience attending the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Egypt last November, as well as eco-justice more broadly.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are sold at Imaginary Bookshop in Greenfield, Sadie’s Bikes in Turners Falls, Kestrel Land Trust in Northampton, the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst, Amherst Books in Amherst and Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley. LAVA Center
hosting multimedia music event

GREENFIELD — The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. is presenting Beetle 7, a live music project from local musician Steve Koziol, and featured guests Soporific!, on Thursday, April 20, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The coffee house-style concert invites people to “drop in, hang out, draw, write, make art, make friends and come and go as you please.”

Beetle 7 is described in the event announcement as “an ambient space music experience” that features Joel Paxton (guitar), Kevin Smith (tuba), Steve Koziol (guitar) and Leo Hwang (theremin, guitar). They will be joined by Soporific!, which features Rik Rolski on guitar and effects, and Deborah Rolski on percussion, voice and synth.

The LAVA Center is asking for a suggested donation of $5 to $10, which can be donated at the door or online at thelavacenter.org/donate.
