Devin Niles and Derek Lenois both scored a pair of goals and Sammy Knight had a five-point performance as the Greenfield hockey team zipped past Chicopee, 9-1, Monday night at Smead Arena in Springfield.

“It was a good, hard fought, clean game by both teams,” Green Wave coach Adam Bouchard said. “Hats off to Chicopee, they battled hard.”

Greenfield led 2-0 after the first period, with goals coming from Shane Prusak and Knight. Knight grabbed an assist on Prusak’s goal and Niles and Jacob Bryant recorded assists on Knight’s tally.

The Green Wave took complete control in the second period, scoring four goals in the clip to take a 6-0 lead going into the third.

Kyle Barnes got it started off a feed from Knight, followed by a Bryant goal off an assist from Brody Gagne. Lenois and Niles found the net the final two times in the period, Lenois’ goal off a dish from Barnes and Knight getting the assist on the Niles’ score.

Trevor Seidell-Poirier scored the lone Chicopee goal of the game with 14:15 to play in the third period, but Greenfield answered with three goals of its own in the frame.

Knight scored with 11:52 to play off a pass from Niles, with the Green Wave striking again with 5:25 to play off the stick of Derek Lenois. Matthew Lavoine and Aidan Roche tallied assists on the play.

The final Greenfield goal came a minute later, with Niles scoring his second of the game off an assist from Prusak.

Senior Casey Hoffman created a few offensive opportunities late while Derek Wissmann made some nice defensive plays in the victory.

The Green Wave are back in action Thursday, looking to remain unbeaten on the season with a tilt against Southwick at Amelia Park Arena in Wes
