GREENFIELD — Green River Cannabis Co. will become Greenfield’s second operational marijuana dispensary when it opens its doors on Tuesday.

The shop, located at the former Meadows Golf Course building at 398 Deerfield St., was physically ready to open in summer 2021, but has since been stalled by a lengthy state Cannabis Control Commission licensing process. Now licensed as of late January, Green River Cannabis Co. looks to “bring a lot of innovation” to the table and nurture a one-of-a-kind customer experience, according to company President Constant Poholek.

“Our store will be more of a unique boutique type of cannabis store with more unique products that other cannabis stores probably won’t offer,” Poholek said. The shop is expected to have about 15 employees.

Although Greenfield has eight active host community agreements with companies looking to start marijuana dispensaries, Green River Cannabis Co. will be the second to open, following Patriot Care on Legion Avenue. As the first medical marijuana facility in Franklin County, Patriot Care began serving patients in April 2018, and transitioned to include recreational marijuana in January 2019.

Green River Cannabis Co.’s priority will be to lean on western Massachusetts as a “circuit of growth,” Poholek said. Pre-rolls and edibles, for example, are going to be locally sourced from distributors “as close as Holyoke.”

“We’re going to basically incorporate as many organic, natural products as we can,” Poholek added.

He also voiced a commitment to “offer products that are very competitive in the marketplace.” To develop a keen sense of public interest, he intends to survey other retail outlets regarding their 100 most popular products in hopes of adding them to his shop’s inventory.

“Basically as we open and grow, our inventory is going to continue to grow with community demand,” he explained. “We want to carry products that our customers want to purchase.”

Perhaps the most obvious signature characteristic of the dispensary, though, will be its golf course setting. Poholek said that aside from providing customers with a “beautiful scenic view,” he intends to keep the spirit of the site intact. This includes plans to open a disc golf course on the property by spring.

Another effort to make Green River Cannabis Co. a “very friendly facility” involves not only allowing dogs into the store, but welcoming them, Poholek noted. He said he hopes to begin a “Dog of the Week” tradition.

Green River Cannabis Co. will begin operating six days per week, with hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, visit greenrivercannabiscompany.com.
