Youth in the church today are a special chosen generation or race of people. The Bible says in 1Peter 2:9: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Generation is this verse means “stock or breed” or “race.”

Let me share with you the different generations we are now living amongst.

The Baby Boom Generation is the generation that was born following World War II, from 1946 up to 1964, a time that was marked by an increase in birth rates.

Generation X (also known as the 13th Generation) is generally defined as those born after the baby boom ended. Birth dates from the early 1960s to the early 1980s.

Millennials, also known as Generation Y, Generation Next, Net Generation, Echo Boomers, the generation following Generation X who were born from 1982 to the early 2000s (decade).

Generation Z, also known as Generation I, or Internet Generation, the Pluralist Generation, Generation AO (always on), Generation Text, or the “Digital Natives.” The earliest birth is generally dated somewhere between 1989 and the early 2000s.

The generation of our Founding Fathers have died and a new generation of a couple hundred years has arisen and there are those in this new generation that know nothing of the price our founding fathers paid to give us the freedoms they laid out in our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. We now have a liberal generation rewriting American history who know not men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Adams, etc. We now have a generation who has arisen with leaders in churches and government that have never known the leadership of men like John and Charles Wesley, George Whitefield, Charles Finney, D.L. Moody, Billy Graham and the generation of men and women of the first and second great awakening who have died. We also have in our contemporary generation, a new generation of Leaders in the churches who have not known The God of Pentecost and have settled for a Laodecian age in which the voice of the people is more important than the voice of God.

Now let me speak to you briefly about THIS GENERATION you and I are now living in, which I see as a conglomeration worldwide of all past generations combined.

Jesus said, as it was in the days of Noah and Lot so shall it be in the days of the coming of the Son of man. Noah was found righteous in the days preceding the flood, and He was called the preacher of Righteousness. Abraham and Lot were both called righteous in their generation. But listen to what is says about the righteousness of Lot. 2Pe_2:7: And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 2Pe_2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds). And many in the church are doing the same today. But Abraham was faithful and righteous and obedient and was called the Friend of God. And look how God blessed Him. And God is using and will continue to use men and women who will be outstanding in faithfulness and righteousness and obedience to Him in the days prior to His second coming.

The greatest impact upon the world today on faith that matters is going to be made in this present generation. I believe the Youth today have the hand of God upon them to effect this generation. They are living in a time of one of the greatest moves of God of any generation that has ever lived.

In contrast to a present generation that is spiritually wandering and wondering where God is, there is a Holy Spirit-filled church generation ablaze with the fire of God in them showing their world what God has done in their life because of the saving grace of Jesus and the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon them.

The National Youth Director of the Assemblies of God stated: “I am believing God for a generation who refuses to trade the altar for the stage, who understands that our stories are divinely written, who gives honor where it is due, and for a Spirit empowered awakening to spread His fame worldwide.”

Finally, I believe this present Generation will see the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 24:34 says, “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” The generation that is alive that sees the fulfillment of all these signs Jesus spoke of will be the generation that sees His Return. We are that generation. Well-known preacher and author Henry Blackaby stated, “Our day has seen everything Jesus spoke of as signs of the end times reach unprecedented proportions.

“If there were ever a time that Christians should be alert to Christ’s coming, it is today.”
