Cinema Week schedule

Oct. 7 through Oct. 13, the second annual Cinema Week, will be celebrated at the Garden Cinemas with special promotions and activities related to this year’s theme, “Cinema Connects Us.”

All week long, patrons can enjoy unlimited free refills of any size popcorn and soda. The theater has also extended its $1 special for a 16-ounce Pabst in honor of “The Greatest Beer Run Ever.”

Friday: The Garden will host a 6:30 p.m. release of locally filmed movie “Cryptid” with Director Brad Rego doing a question-and-answer session after the film in “The Bored Room.” “Fraternal Friday” also is the theater’s salute to public service organizations, where every service organization and fraternity member who shows a dues card gets into the theater for the child admission price.

Saturday: The theater will provide a special showing of “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” before open hours for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County. Mentors and mentees get free admission, plus free popcorn and soda. Guests should reach out to Big Brothers Big Sisters to get the secret code words needed to get in. That evening, the theater will offer $5 Midnight Movies with an encore of “Cryptid,” along with midnight cult classics: “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” “Nosferatu” and “Night of the Living Dead.” Anyone who shows the concession stand that they have posted a picture of themselves at the theater and tagged it will receive $1 off a fountain beverage.

Sunday: “Superhero Sunday,” sponsored by His and Hers Comics, will start at 9 a.m. with the free screening of 17 different Max Fleischer Superman shorts from 1941 to 1942 that run from seven to 10 minutes long. Family Day at the Garden will also have coloring, arts and crafts, and games in The Bored Room.

Monday: Customer Appreciation Day at the Garden, sponsored by GCET. In honor of the classic ’80s video games in The Bored Room like Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros., the Garden will show “The Goonies” throughout Cinema Week. For Customer Appreciation Day only, anyone coming to any movie will receive a free Baby Ruth candy bar — the candy bar that Sloth and Chunk bonded over in the film.

Tuesday: The theater will double down on its weekly $5 Tuesday ticket promotion by offering extra sodas, Icees and buckets of popcorn for $5 as well. The theater has also made Tuesday Alumni Night, so former Garden theater employees — regardless of the owner they worked for — get free popcorn and soda for the film just like when they worked at the Garden. All alumni need to do is sign up for the Alumni Club on the theater website, gardencinemas.net. Tuesday is also TikTok Tuesday, where patrons are challenged to make a TikTok video at the theater.

Wednesday: The theater will host its second annual Movie Trivia Night with questions projected on the big screen. Tickets are $12 each for teams of one to six players and 100% of the ticket price supports Franklin County’s YMCA. Also on Wednesday night, the theater, in cooperation with Iconic Events, will show a fifth anniversary screening of the anime film, “A Silent Voice.” The film tells the story of a young man who is ostracized by his classmates after he bullies a deaf girl to the point where she moves away. Years later, he sets off on a path for redemption. Also on Wednesday, the Garden will offer a special senior matinee at 2 p.m. for only $1 with your choice of three different Cary Grant films: “Penny Serenade” (1941), “Charade” (1963) and “His Girl Friday” (1940).

Thursday: The Garden will finish Cinema Week with early access to “Halloween Ends,” the 13th and final film in John Carpenter’s franchise starring Jamie Lee Curtis that dates back to 1978.
