HAWLEY — Assessors’ Clerk Virginia Gabert, whose “encyclopedic knowledge” of Hawley has made the job of town assessor a littler easier, recently won an assessors’ Clerk of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers.

“Virginia Gabert has been the backbone of the Hawley Assessors’ department for as long as anyone can remember,” said Hawley Assessors Chairman Rick Kean, speaking for his board. “She has a highly analytical mind and a penchant for detail that makes the work of the elected assessors much easier than it otherwise might be.”

In her nomination, the board wrote: “Even more important is the polite, respectful and helpful way she interacts with the public, with unhappy taxpayers, vendors and fellow professionals … She’s eternally thoughtful and well-deserving of the MAAO Clerk of the Year Award.”

Gabert received her award on Sept. 28, at a conference at Summit View Restaurant in Holyoke. Gabert is a long-time town employee who also served as the town’s administrative assistant for many years.
