GREENFIELD — The Greenfield High School Student Council will host a benefit concert Saturday that will support the Student Council and Special Olympics.

Good Acoustics, a three-member band comprised of Pioneer Valley educators, will perform in the school auditorium at 21 Barr Ave. at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7:15.

The band, which primarily plays in the Springfield area, will perform its tributes to Simon and Garfunkel and James Taylor.

Member Bill DeSanty, who is the drummer and vocalist, is an alumnus of Mohawk Trail Regional School.

“This is one of our favorite shows to play,” DeSanty said. “I’m so happy we can come to Greenfield and help the kids.”

Tickets are $20, and proceeds will be split evenly between the Student Council and Special Olympics. The Student Council plans to use its share to offset costs for students to attend leadership conferences, according to Student Council Advisor and math teacher Angela Mass. Greenfield sends students to regional and state conferences each year. The cost is $350 per student.

Also, for the past six years, the Student Council has participated in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, where students travel to Hyannis in March dressed in costume and they jump into the ocean to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics.

“Last year, we raised $400 for Special Olympics, and we’re hoping to top that this year with the help of this concert,” Mass said.

She said the music will be appropriate for all ages. Concessions will be sold.

For advance tickets, contact Mass or a Student Council member. Checks made out to WMASC or cash will be accepted. Use the rear entrance of the school on the night of the concert.
