GREENFIELD — Greenfield Community Energy and Technology, better known as GCET, is about to increase its internet speeds at no extra charge to its customers.

According to GCET General Manager John Lunt, the company felt that throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, people realized they needed more bandwidth because they were working from home or attending school virtually.

“They were using more devices, so use rose considerably,” Lunt said. “GCET wanted to make sure everyone has enough to do all that they want without ever having to worry about slowdown. We want to take good care of our customers — they’re our neighbors.”

Starting Saturday, residential and business customers who have the 75/75 megabits per second packages (representing download and upload speeds) will be upgraded to 100/100, while those with 150/150 megabits per second packages will be upgraded to 200/200. Likewise, internet and television bundles of 150/150 megabits per second will be upgraded to 200/200.

“We wanted to make sure that customers who do a lot of streaming and people and students working from home have more than enough bandwidth,” Lunt said in a press release. “This will allow them to have multiple devices active and still get GCET’s great speed and reliability even as their usage grows.”
