Greenfield Community College Day is back for its second year, offering a variety of free events and activities that welcome visitors to the campus.

“GCC Day is a celebration of the entire community and everything they’ve provided to us as the community’s college,” said Director of Communications and Marketing Dan Desrochers. “We’re really grateful to the community, especially Greenfield, for everything they’ve provided, and we wanted to say thank you.”

The event will take place on June 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the campus’ front lawn.

Desrochers said there will arts and crafts, including a T-shirt tie-dyeing station, as well as activities offered by Franklin County’s YMCA. Food trucks will be on-site, and beer and wine will be available for purchase from Hitchcock Brewing Co.

The first GCC Day grew from a place of need in the wake of the pandemic, Desrochers said.

“We’ve started to finally come back to the in-person feel,” Desrochers noted. “As we continue to slowly grow out of the pandemic, this is another way we’re trying to come together.”

Parking will be free, and guests are invited to bring their dogs, their families, and kickballs or soccer balls. No registration is needed.

“It’s important for people to see and experience all that GCC has,” he said.

The community is also invited to the inauguration of the college’s 11th president.

Schutt began as president on July 18, 2022, taking over for Richard Hopper, who had served as interim president since the previous August following the resignation of Yves Salomon-Fernández.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 31, from 2 to 5 p.m. on the campus’ East Lawn. Speakers will include state Sen. Jo Comerford, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jessye Deane and GCC board of trustees Chair Hector Toledo, among others. A reception will follow.

Attendees are asked to register online at gcc.mass.edu/events/inauguration.
