MONTAGUE — The Great Falls Discovery Center will host its second free workshop on programs and incentives for energy upgrades of apartment buildings on Thursday.

While the workshop, set for 6:30 to 8 p.m., will focus on landlords and tenants in Montague’s five villages, Montague homeowners are also welcome, as well as residents and property owners from other local towns.

Thursday’s event, as well as the first workshop held in June, is organized by Drawdown Montague, a group of friends and neighbors who joined together to work locally on the global crisis of climate change, in collaboration with Community Action Pioneer Valley, the Center for EcoTechnology and the Montague Energy Committee.

According to a Drawdown Montague press release, landlords at the workshop will learn how to upgrade their properties using energy efficiency programs that offer, for example, 75 percent off insulation and free LED light bulbs. In addition to making their properties more energy efficient, landlords benefit because more energy efficient buildings typically have higher occupancy rates and less frequent tenant turnover.

Participants can sign up for energy efficiency programs at the workshop, the press release states. The workshop will also include giveaways of LED light bulbs, energy-saving power strips and other small energy saving items, as well as demonstrations of do-it-yourself weatherizing techniques.

The event includes free snacks and beverages. For more information, visit drawdownmontague.earth.
