Summer Athlete Series: Give your middle and/or high school athlete the opportunity to learn techniques specific to their sport, as well as new ways to think about their training to better their performance on the field. This small group clinic will consist of 60 minutes of strength-based training in the YMCA’s Training Zone, followed by 60 minutes of sport-specific drills, totaling two hours of training. Saturday, Aug. 6, will focus on baseball and softball training skills from 2 to 4 p.m. $10 for Y members, $20 for non-members. Register online at or call the YMCA. Contact Grayson at for details.

YMCA Child Care Open House: Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. in the Game Room. Learn more about the YMCA’s school-age child care, which includes before- and after-school care, vacation care, and care for when schools are closed due to snow, holidays and in-service days. An open house will also be held for the Y Academy on Main, the preschool for children 2.9 to 5 years old. Pizza and refreshments will be available. Registration for preschool and before- and after-school care will open on Aug. 10.

Camp Apex Reunion: An afternoon of swimming, archery, arts and crafts, and more for past campers and staff of Camp Apex. Saturday, Aug. 13, from noon to 6 p.m. at Camp Apex in Shelburne. For more information, visit

KIDZONE: Parents, guardians and grandparents are invited to drop off their children (3 to 12 years old) in the YMCA’s Game Room Monday through Friday for two-hour blocks (9 to 11 a.m. or 10 a.m. to noon). Free for those with YMCA family memberships or $5 per child, $2 for each additional child. For more information or to register, call the YMCA.

20th Annual Kids-to-Camp Golf Tournament: Monday, Sept. 26, at the Country Club of Greenfield. Shotgun start at noon. Lasting Lifestyles: In this support group environment, Community Health Center of Franklin County Nurse Kelly Henry will facilitate as the group covers nutrition, behavior and fitness. Ideal for participants who have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes, or those who are simply looking for some extra help in achieving healthy habits.
