ERVING — Scott Bastarache has been re-elected to the Selectboard, after a two-year hiatus. He said he expects to continue serving on the board in future terms as well.

The Selectboard race was the only contest in the annual town election on Monday. Voter turnout was about 6 percent, with 71 people out of the 1,195 registered voters casting their ballots, according to Town Clerk Richard Newton.

Bastarache received 45 votes, and his opponent Janice Vega-Liros had 25. One ballot was left blank.

The Selectboard term is for one year, to complete the term of Peter Sanders, who resigned in January after about a year and a half on the board.

Bastarache was elected to the Selectboard in 2016, and was re-elected in 2019. He resigned soon after that, saying he did not have enough time to commit to the Selectboard.

When Bastarache ran this spring, he said he had more time available and would be able to commit to the Selectboard again.

“Now that I have the time capacity, I’d like to continue as long as I can,” Bastarache said after Monday’s election.

He will be sworn in on July 1, but said he expects to attend Selectboard meetings until then.

“I’m just looking forward to being able to give back to the town and get back into the fold,” he said.

Also in the election, several incumbents were re-elected without contest.

Most notably, Selectboard Chair Jacob Smith was re-elected for a three-year term, Town Clerk Richard Newton was re-elected for a three-year term and Moderator Richard Peabody was re-elected for a one-year term.

On the Erving School Committee, David Chagnon and Catherine McLaughlin were re-elected for three-year terms. Katelyn Little was elected as a write-in for a two-year term.
