BERNARDSTON — With the end of the first month of 2024 approaching, the Bernardston Kiwanis Club’s annual chicken pot pie fundraiser series is set to begin this weekend.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, the first of four chicken pot pie dinners, which are held on the last Saturday each month, will be served at the United Church of Bernardston, 58 Church St. The Kiwanis Club will be raising money for club member Chris Fontaine’s Cub Scouts Pack 3 group, which features kids from all around Franklin County.

“The weather’s just right for a good, hearty meal,” said Kiwanis Club member Dan Devine. “And it’s for a good cause.”

The meal will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with continuous seating. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children. Meals include chicken pot pie, butternut squash, cranberry sauce, a roll, drinks and a slice of homemade carrot cake. Takeout options are available and a meal can be reserved by calling Kiwanis Club member Joel Cole at 413-834-5484.

Donations for the Cub Scouts will also be accepted. Alongside the meal, Girl Scout troops will be selling cookies and a raffle will be held.

Devine mentioned the Cub Scouts recently rechartered. The group also has a pinewood derby coming up and the club is raising money to offset costs for the kids.

On the final Saturday of January, February, March and April, the Kiwanis Club picks a different group to support through its chicken pot pie dinners, with past recipients including the Cub Scouts and the Pioneer Valley Regional School band. Other dinners provide financial support for the club itself, which puts on a variety of community events throughout the year.

The Kiwanis Club typically serves more than 100 meals to the public at each dinner.
