TURNERS FALLS — The United Arc’s got talent, and the first Arc-a-Palooza concert aims to prove it.

Five local musical acts are set to take the stage at the Shea Theater Arts Center for a Feb. 17 fundraising event for the nonprofit that provides advocacy and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in western Massachusetts. Performances from TJ and the Peepers, John Waynelovich, HyFy, Bordertown and Alex Casavant will start at 7 p.m. and the night will end with a special performance by the Arc-a-Pella group, a group comprised of individuals supported by The United Arc.

CEO Fred Warren said the event will give those with intellectual and developmental disabilities “an opportunity to share in the spotlight, which is something that is awesome.”

Admission will be based on a sliding scale ranging from $10 to $50, with a suggested ticket price of $20. Sandra Vecchio, the organization’s event and community generalist, said the sliding scale is based on what people can afford.

“We don’t want to shut anybody out from enjoying music,” Vecchio said.

Proceeds will benefit The United Arc and its mission. There will also be refreshments and a 50/50 raffle.

Part of the idea for Arc-a-Palooza came from RemArcable, a series of joint performances at the Ja’Duke Center for the Performing Arts in 2023 that featured The United Arc’s staff and clients, Ja’Duke students and community members. Warren said he wanted to give other organizations a chance to benefit from Ja’Duke’s generosity and approached the Shea Theater, where he has performed.

“There’s been a ton of excitement,” he said, adding that the event will “make some dreams come true, quite honestly.”

Warren said The United Arc hopes to make Arc-a-Palooza an annual February event.

Vecchio mentioned she was excited when Warren pitched the idea for a music event.

“I thought it was a good idea,” she recalled. “There’s so many bands in the area and there’s so many venues for them to play in — I wasn’t sure we’d be able to get as many as we did.”
