TURNERS FALLS — Firefighters from several towns extinguished a small fire in a one-story home at 41 Coolidge Ave. on Friday.

A call came in at 11:59 a.m. reporting smoke coming from the home. According to Fire Chief Todd Brunelle, upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke coming from the eaves of the green ranch-style house but no visible flames.

Brunelle said the firefighters encountered a small fire on the floor of the vacant house, which appeared to be under renovation. They extinguished the fire by running a 1¾-inch hose through the side door, then checked the basement for any fire extension. The doors and windows were opened to vent the smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but doesn’t appear to be suspicious, according to Brunelle.

Responding fire departments included Turners Falls, Greenfield, Erving, Bernardston and Montague Center. Orange provided coverage of the Turners Falls Fire Station.
