GREENFIELD — The Festival of Trees has a new home this year, on the third floor of Wilson’s Department Store.
The annual charity event, in its fourth year, has previously been held at Yankee Candle, but a lack of availability of the company’s annex caused organizers to reach out to Wilson’s, which agreed to host the endeavor that begins Friday.
Each year, the public is invited to saunter through a room dotted with artificial Christmas trees decorated with prizes and themed decorations sponsored by businesses, civic and social organizations, schools, individuals and families. Tickets are available for purchase for those who would like a chance to win the raffle prizes on the trees.
The festival, a collaboration between the Franklin County Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club of Greenfield, will be open Fridays and Saturdays from Nov. 22 to Dec. 14. According to the event’s Facebook page, proceeds will be returned to the community by way of grants.
“It’s a great cause,” said Sheila Peers, who handles human resources, marketing and advertising for Wilson’s. “We were approached and we had the space, and it’s a wonderful, charitable event.”
Peers said 75 to 80 trees are expected. A soft opening will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday.
