ASHFIELD — After almost a decade of service to St. John’s Church, the Rev. Eliot Moss will be leaving the church on Sunday. A special liturgy of farewell will be held at the church, followed by a festive potluck brunch at the Corner House, at 469 Main St. Services start at 10 a.m.

According to parish member Susan Todd, Moss has increased the mission outreach of the parish, receiving several grants to support its efforts. “The Rev. Moss has sought to build upon St. John’s team ministry, strengthening its laity and encouraging broad participation in the church wherever possible,” she said. “His attention to the church’s operations has led to increased smoothness and efficiency in its procedures and a sound budget.”

Besides serving at St. John’s, Moss is a professor of computer science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and director of graduate studies for that department. After leaving St. John’s, he will pursue new opportunities as a priest within the Western Massachusetts Episcopal diocese while continuing his position at UMass.
