Eversource plans upgrades for Shelburne Falls next week

SHELBURNE FALLS — To complete system upgrades, Eversource has scheduled power outages next week for Buckland and Shelburne sections of Shelburne Falls.

The reason for temporarily cutting off power is to let Eversource crews safely install automated switches that will minimize power outages whenever there is a system failure.

Now, for instance, if a downed tree limb takes out a power line during a snowstorm, those affected may be without electricity until a crew arrives to switch them to another line. The automated switches can connect many of the affected customers to an alternate power line without a crew on hand, until the problem is fixed.

Power will be temporarily shut off to residents on the Buckland side on Monday, Nov. 26, between 10 a.m. to noon; other Buckland residents may lose power on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., pending good weather.

On the Shelburne side, there will be a service outage for some people on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. In case of rain, the date will be moved to Friday, Nov. 30. For security reasons, the affected street addresses are not publicized, but residents are notified by post card or by phone.
