ERVING — A man was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries after the vehicle he was driving struck a utility pole during a rollover on Northfield Road (Route 63) on Wednesday afternoon, according to Erving Fire Chief Philip Wonkka.
Wonkka said the unidentified driver was the vehicle’s lone occupant. The emergency call came in at 2:22 p.m. Wonkka said power remained on in the area, though the pole needed to be replaced.
“As you can see, it’s in three pieces,” he said. Eversource workers were on scene to replace the pole in front of 72 Northfield Road.
Wonkka said the accident was still under investigation and he did not know what caused it as of Wednesday afternoon. Northfield Road was temporarily closed to traffic to accommodate the rescue efforts and utility work.
The Erving Fire and Police departments responded, and Orange EMS provided the ambulance. Additionally, police from Gill and Northfield helped to reroute traffic.
