MILLERS FALLS — Inspired by previous fundraising events, Element Brewing Co. is starting a new “Thankful Thursdays” program to support local charities.

“It seems like there is a lot of interest in helping neighbors,” said Element Brewing co-owner Ben Anhalt. “We feel that we could be a facilitator.”

The 16 Bridge St. brewery will begin opening its doors on the second Thursday of every month to use the space as a fundraiser. The business has a Google form on its website where charities can sign up to be part of the program.

Each month, Anhalt and co-owner Dan Kramer will select a charity, and 20% of all sales from 6 p.m. to close will support that charity. There will also be a jar out during the night where people can donate directly to the cause. Representatives of the charity are welcome to staff a table and give out information.

During previous fundraisers, the bar raised more than $1,000 for the Verchot family who lost their home in a fire. They were also approached by the Greenfield Public Library to host a Pints for Programs event that raised about $200.

The owners found that these fundraising events were a great way to boost business at the bar and support their neighbors at the same time. They hope to begin the new program on June 8.

People hoping to raise money for specific causes like a surgery, without being a 501(c)(3), are also welcome to apply to be a recipient of Thankful Thursdays.

“We are community-minded,” Anhalt said. “People here value our neighbors, town and region.”

Thankful Thursdays is just one night per month in the brewery’s growing events schedule, but there is always an activity planned on Thursdays. The first Thursday of each month is devoted to crafts. People can bring their own projects, or use some of the coloring pencils and paper provided. The third Thursday is board game night and the fourth is for trivia.

Along with the themed Thursdays, Element Brewing also hosts a long list of musicians on weekends, including a popular Irish jam night.

“We are looking to create a wholesome environment here that can include families and kids,” Anhalt said. “It’s a happening spot.”
